Revitalization of palatals of the Croatian written letters — Č/ć, DŽ/Dž, Đ/đ, LJ/lj, NJ/nj, Š/š, Ć/ć, Ž/ž.

Title

Buljanovićica

Most of the same letters were taken from the 19th century Slavic orthographies. The problem with the Croatian written letters is that some one–letter and two–letter words are written in the same manner but pronounced differently. For example, the digraph “nj” represent one phoneme (“konj”, “njuška”), but in some internationalisms it is read as a sequence of two phonemes (“konjunkcija”, “injekcija”) — which is unacceptable from a linguistic aspect. Revitalization of palatals of the Croatian written letters leads the solution of the mentioned problem. Likewise, Croatian indigenous graphemes are being introduced, as well as a unique system of the Croatian written letters without diacritical signs and two–letter words. The basis of new graphemes is the basic letter in the formation of a certain palatal. Also, two graphemes of the Croatian written letters are not in the right place. The formation of the letter “ć” is “t” + “j” which means that it should be found after the basic grapheme “t” (currently behind the grapheme “č”), and the formation of the letter “đ” is “g” + “j”, which implies thea place after “g” (currently behind grapheme “dž”).

Croatian National Tourist Board

For Croatian National Tourist Board, the role of visual identity for destination is not is sufficienty appreciated, although visual characteristics are those that can best represent and communicate destination to the market and general public.
That is why the idea of this paper is to create new and competitive visual identity of the Croatian National Tourist Board. Visual Identity that encompasses the essence of Croatia as a tourist destination and as such promotes the same values and at the same time sets the tone of communication itself. A visual that will create a new image and emphasize its authenticity, diversity, modernity, and modularity at all levels, since it represents added value of the people and the country in the global tourist market.
The most important feature of Croatian identity is the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia, with chessboard as the main element on the national flag. Recognized internationally, squares are precisely the visual code according to which Croatia is the most known in the world and they make the leitmotif in this concept of the visual identity for the Croatian Tourist Board.
The concept of a logo (and visual identity) is the creation of a grid where single grapheme is placed in each square that is vertically and horizontally positioned in the center. Slogan positioning is loose, and slogan is used to write additional information on the visual identity.
According to the Croatian National Tourist Board, Croatia is divided into seven clusters. With its recognizable colors within each region, it represents colorful Croatia as the most important characteristic in seven letters. To the target group, the slogan "colorful" essentially shows the position of the brand, and in memorable way summarizes the essence of the destination. Due to its recognizability, the concept enables differentiation from other destinations, creating a positive experience of Croatia as a tourist destination.
For visual identity, a grid is created, depending on the number of letters in the word. For each geographical area there are four types of grids and two logos that are modular. The logo is positioned in the last square of the format, and there is a photo in the background.
Tendencies for further research are to discover new possibilities of the concept and the grid: determine the potential of a visible line grid of different thicknesses, explore specific patterns of regions within the concept, investigate the tonal gradations of characteristic regional colors and to break down cities and places with shades of those colors. Also, explore the visual–cultural context of typography. There are many variations possible with this modularity, and everything is allowed within the concept.
